Campbellford got its name from a river crossing. In the 1830s, two brothers, Robert and David Campbell, were granted land here, and the shallow spot where people waded across the Trent River became known as Campbell’s Ford.

The Riverview sits right on that river, at 6 Front Street North. From the street it’s a white three-storey building with a blue sign over the door. Walk around the back and you see the other side of it: a blue awning, a big red sign that reads Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and dining-room windows that look straight out at the water and the bridge.

The sign still sums it up. The kitchen opens at 8 every morning for eggs Benedict, pancakes and the Trent Hills Breakfast Platter, then carries on with hot turkey, shepherd’s pie and fish and chips until 8 at night. When a holiday comes around there’s often a set menu, like turkey dinner at Thanksgiving or a special for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

The Riverview looks out for the town, too. In January 2025 it signed on to the Alzheimer Society’s Dining for Dementia campaign and pledged 30% of its sales of fish and chips, the Riverview Burger and spaghetti with meat sauce to local programs for caregivers and people living with dementia.
